Marah Louw, I can bet all my money on her. In fact she has a better voice than Miriam Makeba the first lady of King Kong. She also has a saucy bitchy way about her that is tremendous in the shebeen queen-cum-moll role) (Post Transvaal, 27 April 1979)

Apparently somebody sent the article to Miriam Makeba in exile and she was not impressed with the journalist and me (as if I had any influence on what he expressed).

The Americans resigned and I was happy to see them go. Corney Mabaso, Ian Bernhardt and the rest of us managed to rescue the show from the incoherent disaster it had become and return it to its original, recognisable form. The media came back to review the show and one headline read ‘Now King Kong is a Knockout!’. Once again I received great reviews with one journalist saying ‘Marah Louw still gleams with sexiness.’

The damage had been done, however, and audiences started dwindling, although we carried on for another week, against all odds. At the closing party there was not much celebration. I was sad and disappointed at this turn of events.
